Keyboard Visualization

Visualization
The keyboard visualization is designed to allow users to dynamically explore how a particular program utilizes shorcuts. On initial page load, all keys used by a progam appear in the dark blue. The user can further interact with the shorcuts as shown below:

roll

Action Rollover
Moving the mouse over any shorcut action in the left column automatically highlights the shortcut keys necessary for this action on the keyboard. Furthermore, the action, its keys, and a description appear in the corresponding textbox.

Key Rollover
Moving the mouse over any active key automatically highlights all the other keys that, in conjuction with the active key, form a shorcut. The actions and specific shorcuts for these are then automatically listed in the textbox.

Keyboard Reconfiguration
Lastly, the entire visualization can be reconfigured on the fly to display either the QWERTY keyboard layout or the Dvorak keyboard layout. This allows users to quickly match the onscreen keyboard to their physical keyboard.

QWERTY - the most common modern-day keyboard layout on English-language computers. It takes its name from the first six letters as seen in the keyboard's top row of letters. It was designed and patented by Christopher Sholes in 1868 and first appeared in typewriters. More information.

DVORAK Simplified Keyboard - a keyboard layout patented in 1936 by Dr. August Dvorak. While never as popular, it was designed to address the problems of inefficiency and fatigue which characterized the QWERTY layout. More information.

Requirements
If the onscreen layout fails to load, please download the most updated version of both your browser and Flash Player.
